On the eve of Berlin CSD, we invite you to a special conversation: Two organisers from Budapest Pride will share their fight against the authoritarian Orbán regime and their experiences from this year’s 30th Budapest Pride.
When: Friday, 25 July 2025, 6:00 PM
Where: Lovelite, Haasestraße 1, 10245 Berlin
Entry: free, registration required
Guests:
- Mariann Filó, Safety Coordinator Budapest Pride
- Zita Hrubi, Spokesperson Budapest Pride
What to expect?
Despite bans, fines, and state surveillance with facial recognition, hundreds of thousands took to the streets in Budapest in June for equality and human rights. How is this possible? What can we learn from Hungarian activists? And how can we effectively show solidarity from Berlin?
Mariann Filó and Zita Hrubi will speak about:
- Courage and creativity in resistance against authoritarian laws
- Security strategies for activists under repression
- European perspectives in the fight against illiberalism
Why is this important?
The Hungarian Pride ban is not an isolated phenomenon. It exemplifies the dismantling of democratic rights in Europe. If Pride marches can be banned in an EU member state, the fundamental rights of all European citizens are under threat.
